Dr. Nina Foot’s experience with chiropractic began the day she was born when she received her first chiropractic adjustment from her father. While working along side her father, she learned that chiropractic care wasn’t about treating pain, it was about healing the body naturally, without surgery or drugs; it was about finding the root cause of the problem, instead of masking the symptoms. She saw how exciting and rewarding it was to be a chiropractor; becoming one was an easy decision to make.
Nina grew up in Duncan, with a healthy appreciation for the great outdoors and the ice rink. When she began competing as a figure skater, long hours of training and constantly falling on the ice created neck, ankle and knee pain and left her feeling out of balance. Regular chiropractic adjustments made the world of a difference in reducing her pain and helped her perform at her best.
She had a great experience competing on the McGill Figure Skating Team while she completed her Bachelor of Physiology degree at McGill University in Montreal. She then moved to Portland, Oregon and began her chiropractic studies at the University of Western States.
Nina’s chiropractic education not only taught her how to help others, it taught her how to look after herself. She was able to apply what she learned in nutrition classes to her own diet, and she learned how to prevent and treat many conditions, a few of which she had the chance to experience first-hand while training for her first marathon. Portland was a great place to be active and to enjoy yoga practice, frequent hikes, camping trips and snowboarding adventures. During her time in Portland, Nina also became certified in Active Release Technique (ART®), which is a specialized soft tissue technique used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
Nina graduated in 2012 with Summa Cum Laude honours as valedictorian of her class. Since graduation, her education has continued, and she has taken courses to expand her understanding of chiropractic relating to pediatric and maternity care through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). She has also taken courses relating to gait analysis, custom orthotics, extremity adjusting, Active Release Technique®, DNS® (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization), Graston® Technique and the Activator® Technique.
Her approach to chiropractic care involves assessing and treating each person as a whole. She works with people of all ages and will adapt her techniques to meet the comfort level of her patients. She believes that chiropractic care is a team effort between the practitioner and the patient. The more involved patients are in their own care, the sooner they will see results. Her goal is to educate and empower her patients to achieve their full health potential.
Nina and her family moved back to the Cowichan Valley 6 years ago. Nina currently practices out of her home in Duncan, and is excited to offer chiropractic care, custom made orthotics, and Summus Laser Therapy.
